Celeb o'the Day - Brittany Snow

Brittany SnowBrittany Snow - Finding Amanda (Amanda)
This movie sucked too, but it was better than the Zohan :(

Kiffin deaux

As good as the UT defense was this year; I have a feeling it will only get better.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin will be joining his son Lane at Tennessee, sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.

Davis' letter to Kiffin

NFL.com Video

Al Davis reads the letter he sent to Lane Kiffin.

One of the stumbling blocks that led to the demise of Lane Kiffin in Oakland with Al Davis was that Kiffin wanted to fire defensive coordinator Rob Ryan and hire his father Monte of the Bucs -- the highest paid defensive coordinator in the NFL.

Tennessee has reached an agreement with Lane Kiffin to take over as the Volunteers' next coach, with an announcement planned for Monday, barring any snags, according to multiple sources.

Sources confirm to ESPN that his 68-year-old father plans to join his son after the Bucs' season.

Kiffin once introduced a more aggressive national recruiting plan to USC and he recruited ex-Vols great Peyton Manning, who was consulted by his alma mater and signed off on Tennessee's hiring of Kiffin, sources told ESPN.

Great news for Vol fans.

Without Emmanuelle, I would have never finished watching this movie. I usually love Adam Sandlers movies and have heard nothing but good things about the Zohan; but I hated it. The plot sucked *but plotlines in comedies usually do* and the acting was worse. Many times I almost just turned it off. Hard to belive that a movie that everyone liked would be that bad.

24

Marisol Nichols (Nadia)
It's not just a TV show anymore. In a season that saw the head coach ousted and the offense put the word offensive back into the football lexicon; Tennessee found a way to take the Kentucky game for the 24th time.

Holding Kentucky to less than 200 yards while racking up that many on the ground. The defense set the tone and continued to hold the line the entire game (with the exception of a 'trash' touchdown late).

Final score 28-10; but it wasn't that close. Sorry EMB :)

Basketball

UT men played Middle Tennessee State (at MTSU) last night. ESPN's experts have tagged MTSU and one of the 'teams-to-beat' this season for their returning experience. It was a good game.

UT 76 - MTSU 66

The women played UTC (Chattanooga, at UTC) and needed late free throws to come away with a win. Replacing all 5 starters from a double national championship team is tough eh?

Meh

Finally the word gets its due:

There is nothing meh about the journey of the latest entry in the Collins English Dictionary. Rather, it illustrates how e-mail and the internet are creating language.

“Meh” started out in the US and Canada as an interjection signifying mediocrity or indifference and has evolved, via the internet and an episode of The Simpsons, into a common adjective meaning boring, apathetic or unimpressive in British English.

The word was chosen over hundreds of others nominated by the public for inclusion in the 30th anniversary edition of the dictionary, to be published next year. Jargonaut, frenemy and huggles were among entries suggested to the Word of Mouth campaign, run in conjunction with Waterstone’s. The panel that made the final selection chose meh because of its frequent use today.

Meh was submitted by Erin Whyte, from Nottingham, who defined it as “an expression of utter boredom or an indication of how little you care for an idea”. The dictionary will say that meh can be used as an interjection to suggest indifference or boredom – or as an adjective to say something is mediocre or a person is unimpressed.(link)

Been saying this word since the old Lineage I days and see it everywhere (on the 'net). So it's just due to be a word :)

Not Good Enough to Win

Heh. The Eagles and Bengals played to the first NFL tie since '02 today and they should both be fined for ugly play (yes it was that bad).
"Terrible," Bengals quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick said.No one was more surprised than McNabb that it ended so soon -- 3 hours, 46 minutes after the opening kickoff. The 10th-year quarterback thought it would keep going until someone scored, just like a playoff game.Wrong."I didn't know that," said McNabb, who played a leading role in keeping it tied. "I've never been part of a tie. I never even knew it was in the rule book. I was looking forward to getting the opportunity to get out there and try to drive to win the game. But unfortunately with the rules, we settled with a tie."It was the first tied game in the NFL since Nov. 10, 2002, when the Falcons and Steelers finished 34-34 with Michael Vick and Tommy Maddox matching each other pass for pass. In this one, the teams matched each other gaffe for gaffe. The Eagles (5-4-1) have yet to win a close(link)
I'd like to think the NFL would apologize for anyone that actually watched this game.

Tenn vs UTC

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tyler Smith had 21 points and five assists and No. 14 Tennessee defeated Chattanooga 114-75 on Saturday night.

Chattanooga's only lead came off two free throws by Khalil Hartwell to put the Mocs up 8-7 with 16:22 left in the first half.J.P. Prince, who was questionable for the game because of an injured shoulder, came off the bench to help ignite the Vols with a breakaway layup that gave Tennessee a 9-8 lead. The Vols went on a 12-0 run, helped by five points from Bobby Maze.Tennessee (1-0) entered halftime with a 60-37 lead.Tennessee freshman Scotty Hopson scored 17 points. Wayne Chism had a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.Tennessee scored 35 points off 24 turnovers by the Mocs (0-1). The Vols outrebounded the Mocs 42-30 and scored 62 points in the paint.(link)
Unlike Kentucky, Tennessee was able to impose its' will on a lesser opponent. The defense was crisp, the offense was stroking and the score showed it.

This game doesn't tell us anything about the season, but it's always good to come out on fire.

UK vs VMI

I was wondering how long it would be before Nazh couldn't help to tease me about this game. ;)

That was definitely not a fun game to witness as a fan. Well at least the first 30 minutes.

I was at the game last night. VMI totally controlled the first half. They had UK playing their game. They were forcing turnovers, shooting the lights out, and completely in control. Kentucky was playing right into it too. Along with the forced turnovers Kentucky was giving the ball to them all on their own. Halfway through the first half VMI had already scored 44 points. They were on pace to score 80 points in the first half. THE FIRST HALF! Kentucky managed to protect the ball a little better and defend the three better.

The second half started out much like the first did. It did not look good for UK at all. They were on their way to getting their asses handed to them by 20 points or more. Until about the 10 minute mark. Kentucky mounted a comeback that really fired up Rupp Arena. They were able to do all the things that they should have done for the entire first half. It was awesome.

Then the machine ran out of gas. They started making turnovers again and letting VMI stay in the game. Then eventually win it.

It was disappointing. As a fan I was upset with their performance. At the same time I was excited with their ability to come back and at least make the game something interesting.

It does not make one feel comfortable with UK's next opponent. University of North Carolina Tarheels. If Kentucky plays like they did against VMI, it will be a very, VERY long night.

FYI, UNC is #2 on the list of most wins in NCAA Men's Basketball. Kentucky being the first.

Kentucky

Sad news for EMB to start this basketball season:
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Billy Gillispie didn't mention Gardner-Webb, but his postgame
assessment was verbatim from the last time his Kentucky team was shocked like
this.
"They whipped us," Gillispie said of the Wildcats' 111-103 upset to
Virginia Military Institute Friday night.
The upset came just over a year
after Gardner-Webb's 84-68 stunner over the Wildcats in Gillispie's second game
as coach. The sequel came in the opener of year two, which was supposed to be a
tuneup for the Wildcats' trip to No. 1 North Carolina next week.(link)
Looks like year 2 of the Gillispie experiment might have the same ups and downs of last year. At least we can hope this is a down and not going to be the standard at one of the proudest of basketball schools.

Is it time for Wildcats to actually pay attention to football season even when basketball is going on? (heh)

Sad End

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Paula Goodspeed, who died of a possible drug overdose/suicide last night, overdosed in the exact same area around one year ago.

We're told cops were called to Paula Abdul's house -- either late last year or early this year -- and found Goodspeed inside her car, unconscious from a drug overdose.

Broadband for Everyone?

IBM Plans Broadband Over Power Lines For Rural America

The technology allows residents of areas underserved by traditional ISPs to receive high-speed Internet access.

By Paul McDougall InformationWeek November 12, 2008 09:31 AM

IBM (NYSE: IBM) said Wednesday that it has struck a $9.6 million deal with International Broadband Electric Communications under which it will deploy high-speed Internet service that runs over power lines in rural U.S. markets underserved by traditional broadband technology.

IBM will use IBEC's Broadband over Power Line (BPL) equipment to roll out BPL service to customers of electrical cooperatives that provide electricity for much of rural America.

"Americans in rural areas of the country trail their urban and suburban counterparts in broadband availability," said IBEC CEO Scott Lee, in a statement. "This capability will play a crucial role in rural health, education and economic development, while closing the digital divide that exists between well served and underserved America."

Raymond Blair, director of Advanced Networks at IBM, said that, "High-speed Internet service is revolutionizing the way we do business, and access to this resource will generate great opportunities for rural America."

IBM estimates there are over 900 electrical cooperatives in the U.S., providing service that accounts for 45% of the country's total power grid.

Thank You All

The 11th minute of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, Imperial Germany gave up the ghost. America's 1st regime change in the new century. Armistice Day for the War to End all Wars, entirely achieved by the addition of the Great Satan's spiritual fore fathers to an entente of desperate states.

Conscripting an army of free men, America deployed 2 million troops to save Europe from a Prussian military machine that was the world's best - until they hooked up with the Great Satan in combat. Places like Chateau-Thierry and Bellau Wood decisively crushed Teutonicism. Deutschland screamed "GOD! PLEASE! STOP!"

An
extensive remixed v2.0 released 27 years later as Veteran's Day.

Americans should go down on their knees and thank God Almighty for
raising up this laughing race of freemen.

Americans energetically pursue commerce, science, medicine, technology and the arts. When these designs are halted by conflict, they energetically pursue absolute, decisive, and ruthless destruction of their enemies. After visiting violence and securing victory they energetically return to the pursuit of commerce, science, medicine, technology and the arts.

An excellent example of the concept of service to something larger than self became a personal epiphany 2 years ago, at an
especial place and a chance meeting with an ancient Iwo Jima survivor.

17 yo, still on the farm when the horrible news came that the neighbor boy had just been killed in Italy. Staring sacrifice in the face, this living embodiment of
American Exceptionalism had to take his homie's "... place in the line..." Ma and Pa agreed and the preacher drove him to Nashville to enlist. Less than a year later, this Marine fought in place in the line at the hallowed bloodsoaked Iwo Jima.

His name is
legion, for there are thousands like him. From Bunker Hill to Chickamauga, from Midway to Fallujah.

America's veterans put their lives on hold, deploy overseas, incinerate our enemies, return home and continue to build this awesome place.

America and the world can never thank ya'll enough.
