"Mr. Wildcat" Bill Keightley dies at 81

"Mr. Wildcat" Bill Keightley dies at 81

Longtime Kentucky basketball manager Bill Keightley passed away Monday night at the University of Cincinnati hospital from internal bleeding caused by a previously undiagnosed tumor on his spine. Keightley was 81 years old.

I never met the man. From every (I mean EVERY) account I have read or heard of this man, he was a saint. Players said that he always had time to help them. Would always lend an ear when needed. Coaches talked about how much they counted on his advice. Everyone called him their friend.

He spent 48 seasons as the UK Basketball equipment manager. For someone to have the same job for 48 years is extremely rare. He served under every UK Men's Basketball coach since Adolph Rupp. He will be missed and every UK fan mourns his passing. I hope his family is comforted by the knowledge that a nation of Wildcat fans share their pain.
